The Ministry of Family and Human Rights Development of the Federal Government of Somalia has strongly condemned the abuse of a young Somali woman after a video of the incident circulated widely on social media, sparking public outrage.
In a statement issued on Monday, the ministry described the act as a serious violation of human rights, Islamic values, and the cultural traditions of Somali society. The ministry emphasized that such actions undermine the dignity, freedom, and safety of citizens, particularly women and girls.
Minister of Family and Human Rights Development, Khadija Mohamed Al-Makhzoumi, called on all Somalis to reject violence and abuse in all its forms and to support efforts aimed at bringing those responsible to justice.
“The abuse witnessed in the circulated footage is unacceptable and contradicts the values of our religion and society. We urge all citizens to stand together against such violations and ensure accountability for those involved,” the minister said.
The ministry urged security agencies to conduct a thorough investigation, identify the perpetrators, and bring them before the courts in accordance with Somali law.
It also appealed to members of the public to cooperate with law enforcement authorities by providing any information that could assist in identifying and apprehending the suspects.
The ministry reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the rights, dignity, and safety of Somali women and called for collective action to prevent violence and abuse within communities.
