Somalia’s Defense Minister Ahmed Moallim Fiqi met with the country’s representative to the Islamic Military Counter Terrorism Coalition (IMCTC), General Abdirahman Mohamed Tuuryare, to discuss ongoing security initiatives and future projects aimed at strengthening counterterrorism efforts, officials said. During the meeting in Mogadishu, General Tuuryare briefed the minister on the coalition’s activities and programs in Somalia and across the Horn of Africa. He also outlined plans for new projects scheduled to be implemented in Somalia later this year and informed the minister about upcoming visits by IMCTC delegations.

The discussions focused on enhancing cooperation in security and counterterrorism as Somalia continues its campaign against the Al-Shabaab militant group.

Separately, General Tuuryare held talks with the high-level committee responsible for developing the strategy for building the Somali National Army, led by Major General Mohamed Ali Bariise, commander of the Joint Operations Center.

According to officials, the meeting focused on improving military development plans and advancing Somalia’s broader national security strategy as the government seeks to strengthen its armed forces and expand security reforms.
