Police in Dhobley District, Lower Jubba region, have intensified operations against illegal wildlife hunting and other activities that threaten the environment, leading to the seizure of illegally hunted animals and the confiscation of vehicles used in poaching operations.
According to local authorities, security forces intercepted a large quantity of wild animals that were being illegally transported into Dhobley town over the past several days. The animals were reportedly hunted unlawfully and moved using vehicles operated by individuals involved in poaching and environmental destruction.
The Dhobley District Police also seized the vehicles used in the illegal activities as part of efforts to strengthen enforcement of environmental protection and wildlife conservation laws. Officials say the action is intended to deter those involved in illegal hunting and related crimes.
In a public demonstration aimed at discouraging future violations, Dhobley Police burned the illegally hunted meat in front of the community, sending a clear warning that wildlife crimes will not be tolerated in the district.
Dhobley District Police Commander, Colonel Abdulkadir Hassan Abdi, said anyone involved in wildlife poaching would face strict legal consequences. He emphasized that protecting the environment and wildlife remains a top priority for the police and local administration.
“We will ensure that anyone caught engaging in illegal hunting or harming the environment is dealt with according to the law. Our responsibility is to safeguard wildlife and preserve natural resources for future generations,” the commander said.
Dhobley District Commissioner Hassan Abdi Xaashi echoed the warning, stressing that any activity threatening the environment would be met with firm action. He called on residents to cooperate with authorities by reporting illegal hunting and environmental violations.
The crackdown is part of a wider initiative across Jubbaland aimed at stopping illegal hunting and conserving wildlife populations. Police in Dhobley say operations will continue as part of ongoing efforts to protect the environment and ensure community safety.
Authorities have urged the public to support conservation efforts, noting that environmental protection is a shared responsibility that requires cooperation between communities and law enforcement agencies.
