The Mayor of Kismayo and District Commissioner, Mr. Omar Abdullahi Mohamed, accompanied by the Deputy Mayor for Social Affairs, Mr. Najiib Bare Salad, today officially laid the foundation stone for a major road rehabilitation project in the Farjanno neighborhood of Kismayo city.
The project, which covers approximately 750 meters, aims to improve community access, strengthen local economic infrastructure, and enhance mobility for residents. The rehabilitated road is expected to ease transportation, support business activities, and improve the overall urban outlook of the area.
The initiative is being implemented by IOM Somalia in collaboration with the Kismayo City Municipality, while construction works are carried out by ICL (International Construction and Logistic Company) under a co-funding arrangement.
Speaking at the ceremony, municipal officials emphasized that the project will play a vital role in boosting development, connectivity, and the aesthetic value of Kismayo city. They also reaffirmed the municipality’s commitment to expanding infrastructure services across all neighborhoods.
Residents of Farjanno welcomed the project, noting that the road will improve daily movement, access to services, and economic opportunities within the community.
The foundation-laying ceremony marks another step in Kismayo’s ongoing efforts to modernize infrastructure and promote sustainable urban development across Jubaland State.
